Children and teenagers in Mandurah may be able to access free pool passes at the Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre (MARC) as part of the State Government's KidSport Regional Pool Program.
Those who are eligible will be able to access free seasonal pool passes for up to six months at the MARC, with costs subsidised through the program.
The program aims to increase physical activity and water awareness for children aged five to 18 years and allow more kids to participate through the summer season.
According to Royal Life Saving Australia, less than 20 percent of 12-year-olds are able to keep afloat for two to five minutes, an important skill for the body to conserve energy until help arrives.
Mayor Rhys Williams said the City was proud to join the program and help even more children access the MARC’s community aquatic spaces.
“Mandurah has a fantastic aquatic centre that is perfect for building confidence around the water, learning new skills or just enjoying some leisure time with the family,” Mayor Williams said.
“We hope all eligible families will apply for pool passes through the KidSport Regional Pools Program, and we look forward to welcoming even more young people and their families into our centre to enjoy the water.”
Applicants will need to meet KidSport eligibility requirements to access funding equivalent to the cost of a seasonal pass for pool entry through the regional pool program.
