The City of Kwinana is asking residents to have their say on a proposed rate rise for the 2025-2026 financial year.
Council endorsed the 4.5 per cent increase at a recent council meeting which equates to about $1.42 extra per week for the average residential property.
Mayor Peter Feasey said community feedback is important.
“Every comment we receive helps inform the complex decisions behind how rates are applied to individual properties,” Mayor Feasey said.
“Our priority is to strike the right balance—keeping rate increases as low as possible while still delivering the core services and maintaining the service levels our community expects. We know families are doing it tough, and we’re focused on operational efficiency and financial responsibility.
“The rising cost of living is affecting everyone. Inflationary pressures, including continual increases in the Consumer Price Index and the Local Government Cost Index, have created financial challenges for councils across the state.”
To support the community, a range of flexible payment options are available, including online payments, direct debit, and instalment plans.
The City also continues to offer a hardship policy for residents who may be struggling.
“We encourage any ratepayer experiencing financial difficulty to reach out to our team at rates@kwinana.wa.gov.au. We are committed to working with any ratepayers who might be going through a tough time to find a solution that meets their needs,” Mayor Feasey said.
