The City of Rockingham's most outstanding volunteers have been recognised for their contribution to the community at the 2024 Volunteer Recognition Evening.
The event was held on on Wednesday, May 15 at the Gary Holland Community Centre in the lead up to National Volunteer Week (20-26 May).
The City shone a spotlight on 25 volunteers who had been nominated for recognition by their various local non-for-profit clubs and organisations.
The winners were selected by a judging panel featured across six categories.
Jan Thair from Switched on Seniors took out Volunteer of the Year, while Jasmine Noorman from Secret Harbour Surf Life Saving Club was awarded Young Volunteer of the Year.

Senior Volunteer of the Year went to Pauline Dilley from the Rockingham Regional Environment Centre and Story Dogs took out Community Volunteer Organisation of the Year.
The 'People Who Make a Difference' award was presented to Graham Shackles from the Secret Harbour Surf Life Saving Club while the Act Belong Commit award went to Gregg Oughton from Kings Park Warriors.
Deputy Mayor Lorna Buchan congratulated this year’s winners and thanked all volunteers in the City of Rockingham for being the heart of the community.
“It’s because of our volunteers that we have such a vibrant and active community,” Deputy Mayor Buchan said.
“From weekend sports, to emergency services, to local events, volunteers are the lifeblood of our community and we’re so grateful to be able to benefit from their passion, time and expertise.”
This year’s theme for National Volunteer Week is ‘Something for Everyone’.
A National Volunteer Week Pop-up event will be held at the Mary Davies Library and Community Centre on Wednesday, May 22 from 9.30am-11.30am where prospective volunteers can come along and chat with Rockingham Volunteer Centre (RVC) staff about opportunities best suited to them.
“Volunteering is for everyone and offers so many benefits,” Deputy Mayor Buchan said.
“Meet new people, learn new skills, feel valued and appreciated, and have fun. Whether you're drawn to environmental causes, community services, education or beyond, there's a place where your unique skills and interests can flourish.”
