A 35-year-old man has been charged over a fire that destroyed a daycare centre in Mandurah.
The man allegedly set fire to various items outside of Nurture Through Nature around 6.30pm on Tuesday.
The fire then spread through to the patio area and the main building causing a damage bill of $500,000.
While being placed under arrest, the accused allegedly assaulted a police officer.
The officer was taken to hospital for treatment and released.
The Mandurah man has been charged with criminal damage by fire, burglary and commit on a place, two counts of obstructing public officers and one count of assaulting a public officer.
He is due to appear in the Perth Magistrates Court today.
