A Mandurah woman has successfully swum the English Channel.
Karen Sims completed the 33km crossing from England to France in 14 hours and 59 minutes.
The English Channel is considered one of the most grueling endurance swims in the world and only about 2000 people have successfully completed it.
Mandurah Mayor Amber Kearns said Karen is a familiar face at the Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre (MARC) as well as the Mandurah Masters Swimming Club.
"For more than five years, she has generously volunteered in a range of committee roles, always willing to support fellow swimmers and help strengthen the club she loves. She is someone who gives back just as much as she achieves," Mayor Kearns said on her social media page.
"Karen’s journey to the English Channel has been years in the making, completing some of Australia’s toughest marathon swims before taking on what many consider the pinnacle of open water swimming.
"To join the small group of people around the world who can call themselves English Channel swimmers is nothing short of remarkable."
