The City of Rockingham has thanked councillor Craig Buchanan for his service after he announced his resignation this week.
Mr Buchanan was elected to council in 2019 on a platform that included promises to keep rates below CPI and to introduce live streaming of council meetings.
In a statement, he said he would not reveal the reasons behind his resignation but his decision did not come lightly.
"As a sitting councillor, my interpretation of the Local Government Act 1995 (WA) is such that I do not feel at liberty to go into detail as to the substantive reasons for my resignation at this time," he said.
"All I can say is that I no longer have the level of personal confidence that I feel would be required in the City’s administrative procedures to allow me to continue to perform my role to the standard that both I and local ratepayers would expect."
Mr Buchanan's resignation will take effect on April 30.
He has also requested additional time at the ordinary council meeting on April 29 for a valedictory speech.
In a statement, the City of Rockingham thanked Mr Buchanan for his six years of service.
"During his time on Council he made a valued contribution to the work of the City and to the community we serve," the statement read.
"We wish him well in his future endeavours.
"The City will follow statutory requirements in filling the vacancy, including a Report to Council in May."
