A Safety Bay woman is one of five people charged over an extensive investigation into the sale and supply of illicit drugs in Broome and the Kimberley region.
Between Thursday, December 5 and Saturday, December 7, detectives executed seven search warrants within the Broome townsite.
Several items were seized including methylamphetamine, cannabis, 1,4-Butenediol and OC spray.
As a result, five people aged 15 to 42 were charged with a range of drug, weapon and other offences.
Four of the people were from Broome and the fifth was a 38-year-old woman from Safety Bay.
She has been charged with possessing a trafficable quantity of methylamphetamine with intent to sell or supply it to another, possessing certain substances or things (1,4-Butenediol), four counts of possessing drug paraphernalia and possessing a controlled weapon (OC spray).
The woman was refused bail and appeared in Broome Magistrates Court on Friday, December 6.
She is next due to appear in the Perth Magistrates Court on January 17, 2024.
Officer in Charge of Broome Detectives Detective Senior Sergeant Brian Beck said the investigation into people involved in the sale or supply of illicit drugs in the Kimberley District will continue.
“Every day police see the impact illicit drugs have on our community, and even small amounts of drugs can have a significant impact on our smaller towns and Aboriginal communities," he said.
“The links between illicit drugs, including Methylamphetamine and Cannabis, and local crime and antisocial behaviour is evident.
“Whether it is volume crime such as burglaries and stealing offences committed to fund the purchase of drugs, or the drug-fuelled violence, including family violence, that is seen as the result of drug use – this is real issue we are working to address.
“There is no easy solution to the drug-related harm we see in our community, and we remain committed to working with government and community-based partners to address the issue."
