WATCH: Two men rescued off Garden Island after dinghy capsizes

Two men have been rescued off Garden Island after their boat capsized.

A mayday call was made over marine radio about 10.15am on Tuesday, September 16 reporting a vessel in distress.

The pair then activated their EPIRD which a prompted a large-scale search, with rescuers able to pinpoint their exact location.

"Water Police coordinated the deployment of air and sea assets, including the AMSA Challenger jet, RAC Rescue Helicopter, Police Air Wing, and local marine rescue vessels," a WA Police spokesperson said.

"A nearby commercial fishing vessel was first on scene and located the overturned aluminium runabout. 

"Two men were found sitting on the upturned hull, both wearing lifejackets."

The pair were safely brought aboard the fishing boat and transported to Point Peron boat ramp where they were met by St John paramedics.

They were then taken to Fiona Stanley Hospital for medical assessment.

"As summer approaches, authorities are reminding all boaters to ensure they are properly prepared — with the right safety equipment, including lifejackets, an EPIRB, and a working marine radio — before heading out on the water," WA Police said.
